About the event

You are invited to Project Okibu's Launch Event! 🎊🎉

Come join us on the 30th October 11.00 BST/18.00 PH time to celebrate our launch event!

Our aim is to build solidarity in a diverse and inclusive community, connecting bridges with our fellow kaibigans around the world and emboldening overseas Filipinos. As we are continuing to affirm our identities as a new wave of the "Third-Culture Kids", we also want to ensure that we strengthen our relationship with Filipinos in the UK as well as the Philippines, ensuring that our organisation is one that is an agent of change. 🌳  With an incredible and influential line of guest speakers, spanning from activism to founders, there is an opportunity for some Q&A as well as further insight to Project Okibu, and even a fun networking event towards the end!

'Gather' is a video chat platform designed to converge remote work, virtual meetings, socials and conferences to create a fun environment. It also provides the opportunity to 'break the ice' by letting you link to interactive multiplayer games on other websites.

After our launch event, we will be using Gather as a creative way to network, ensuring to make connections while enjoying ourselves!

Below is a list of our guest speakers:

Mitzi Jonelle Tan | Convenor / International Spokesperson

Mitzi Jonelle Tan is a full-time climate justice activist based in Metro Manila, Philippines.

She wants to ensure that voices from the Global South especially are heard, amplified, and given space; and is committed to changing the system and building a world that prioritizes people and planet, not profit, through collective action!

Liezel Longboan | Founder and Editor of Tinig UK

Liezel Longboan is the founder and editor of Tinig UK, the first and only Filipino non-profit media organisation in the UK, with a PhD in media & cultural studies from Cardiff University.

An indigenous Kankanaey from the Cordillera region, Philippines, she has decades of experience working in higher education, government and the non-profit sector in the UK and Philippines.

She is passionate about voice, participation and empowerment, and has written articles on these topics.

Gelaine Santiago | Forbes List Recipient

Based in Toronto, Canada, Gelaine is a co-founder of two companies: ChooseSocial.ph, a Philippine social enterprise directory, and Cambio & Co, a social e-commerce platform. Both of which are steered to promote the Filipino culture all around the world!

Ms. Santiago has been appropriately awarded for her efforts, being praised in many prestigious organisations. Namely, the Cosmopolitan and the Forbes! She has also been nominated as Canada's Top Immigrant in 2019.

Lionell Christian Lanuzo | Fashion Designer

An ardent proponent for the Filipino culture through his designs, Lionell was born in Pampanga, Philippines, and eventually flew to Milan at the age of 13, settling permanently at 17.

Despite studying in the field of Industrial Chemistry, he fostered his interest in fashion designing by designing for pageants. Shortly after, Lionell was invited to represent the Philippines in a Multi-Ethnic Designer competition back in 2018 in Rome, and placed first among nine countries like Peru, Ukraine, Poland, Romania and even Italy!

The link to the webinar can be found here and we will be updating our Instagram for any more information nearer to the date. See you all soon!
